London's hair-loss market has more than doubled since 2022. Genuine clinical rigour has not kept pace. This checklist is what our trichology team uses when patients ask 'is this clinic legitimate?' — and it is the same list we apply to our own referrals.
Credentials that actually matter
A London hair-loss clinic should be able to name — in writing — the qualifications of every clinician who will touch you. For surgeons, that means GMC registration and ideally FRCS or ISHRS membership. For trichologists, the Institute of Trichologists (IoT) or Trichological Society (TTS). For 'hair therapists', ask what NHS-recognised qualification underlies the title.

Red flags to walk away from
Any one of these ends the conversation.
- 'Today-only' discounts pressed at consultation.
- No trichoscopy, no diagnosis — straight to treatment pricing.
- A surgeon who won't confirm they personally perform the case.
- Testimonials on the wall but no verifiable patient references.
- Aggressive upsells to unrelated services (facials, IV drips, MLM supplements).
What a good first consult looks like
Sixty to ninety minutes. History, examination, trichoscopy, bloods requested if not recent, and a written plan emailed within 48 hours. Treatment options are ranked with a 'do nothing yet' option honestly included. Total cost of the consult: £120–£220 in London. Money extremely well spent.
A good clinic charges you £150 to tell you that you don't need them yet.
